I’m withdrawing my support of the American Tinnitus Association

http://www.vivint.com/content/charities/13068558801016981040.standard.jpgHere's why I'm withdrawing my support from the American Tinnitus Association:

They've decided to "honor" James Inhofe, a truly contemptible, dishonest right winger, with an award. Inhofe has an irrational hatred of President Obama, has joined with Republicans in cynical efforts to block any and everything just to score political points off the President, denies climate change, accuses climate change scientists of being part of some sinister conspiracy, and on and on. There’s just too much stupidity and craven partisanship to recount here.

The ATA honoring Inhofe is like an animal rights group honoring Hitler for loving dogs.

So, looking more into this, it turns out they make "awards" to senators and representatives who support federal funding of tinnitus research. On both sides of the aisle. So perhaps you should actually commend them and make a donation due to the fact that they aren't partisan! They have a mission (funding tinnitus research) and they work towards it, not worrying about external politics!

It's not like they made a contribution to his election campaign or something, they just are keeping him motivated to work towards THEIR goal.

Seems like a good thing to me!

Whoops! Didn't finish my last comment properly!

So, ATA just wants a cure. Look at their advocacy page, the Senator they are honoring (Harkin) is a Democrat. So they spread it around.

I have tinnitus, and I am a member of ATA. I even have my own Walk team in their fundraiser. And I really appreciate that they don't focus on the politics of any individual senator or representative, but rather what that person can do for the literally MILLIONS of people suffering with tinnitus.

The Hitler comparison is unfair and, really, a bit extreme. It is perhaps more like a conservation group accepting money from Big Oil. Should they or shouldn't they? An argument could be made both ways, but it doesn't alter the good work teh conservation group does. Same here with ATA. They are fighting the good fight, an uphill battle I might add, and they are finding ways to make it happen anywhere they can!

If you agree, make a donation to my team, even $1 will help! (though any gift of $25 or more will be matched it turns out!)

Sorry. James Inhofe is so vile, so contemptible, so lacking in integrity, that I simply cannot support any organization that would honor him. To me, it really would be like an animal rights group honoring Hitler for loving dogs. The bad things that Inhofe has done, and continues to do, far outweigh anything good he's done for curing tinnitus. That's just the way I feel. It's my money, and it won't be going to any organization that honors Inhofe. I've been a tinnitus sufferer for a decade, but my money will go elsewhere.
